Tesla’s Model 3 uses a phone instead of a key

Image: tesla This might take a little getting used to. After months and months of anticipation, Elon Musk has finally answered almost all of our questions about the Model 3. But there's one aspect of the electric car that might take a little more adjustment: there is no key for the Model 3. SEE ALSO: We finally know what the inside of Tesla's Model 3 looks like, and it's stunning To be clear, this is not the same as the "keyless" systems, which require some kind of key fob, and it's not the app-enabled remote starting some automakers offer. No, [...]

I drove a Tesla Model 3, and it was pretty damn awesome

Elon Musk knows it's awesome. Image: Lance Ulanoff/mashable This is how an electric car should feel. Hell, this is how all cars should feel. Those were my initial thoughts after test-driving one of the very first Tesla Model 3 all-electric cars to roll off the assembly line Friday before the company's big reveal. That exhilarating, yet short-lived experience, started inauspiciously. In fact, I was prepared to be underwhelmed. I mean, it's just a sedan, right? From a distance, the Tesla Model 3 looks like most other small sedans on the road. SEE ALSO: We finally know what the inside of [...]

That dashboard though. Image: tesla The wait is finally over. After months of hype and anticipation, Tesla has finally given us our first peek at the interior of the Model 3 and, well, it was worth the wait. The interior is every bit as sleek and minimalist as we expected. The most prominent feature is the 15-inch digital display, which has more of a landscape orientation than Tesla's other cars. Note that, as Musk confirmed to a disappointed Tesla fan earlier this year, there is no speedometer (or any kind of gauge, for that matter) behind the wheel. SEE ALSO: [...]

All the best things on the internet are terrible at making money

Image: Shutterstock / Andrey_Popov At some point, the internet became a get-rich-quick scheme. There's a simple formula to it: Smart people with good ideas receive millions of dollars to build something. If that something generates billions of dollars, it is a success. If it does not, it is a failure. Such "failures" include: Twitter, Soundcloud, Vine, Reddit. At varying times, each of these companies had the hallmarks of "success"millions of engaged users, venture capital money, a good brand. Now, Twitter is limping along, Soundcloud is in a death spiral, Vine is gone, and Reddit is still trying to figure things [...]

The domain of the superhost. Image: Jeff Blackler/REX/Shutterstock A lawsuit in California this week claimed that Airbnb creates a "false sense of security" for its customersand one way it does that, the lawsuit contends, is through its superhosts. As part of the lawsuit, she noted that her host was a "superhost"a designation granted by Airbnb to denote the very best of what the home-rental platform has to offer. The economy secretary said: "Aside from being a key part of Scottish culture and identity, our whisky industry supports around 20,000 jobs. "The US made clear in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership discussions that they would support a relaxation of the definition of whisky, which would open the market up to a number of products which do not currently meet that standard." 'Right outcomes' He added: "It is vital that we continue to have robust legal protection of Scotch whisky, which is why I have sought clarification from the UK government as to whether Scotch whisky featured in discussions [...]

In a report published this week, they called on regulator Ofcom to more clearly distinguish between the take-up and actual availability of fast broadband. BT's voluntary offer to provide infrastructure to almost every home could mean that the USO is no longer needed, although the government has yet to decide whether to abandon it. The Department of Culture, Media and Sport said it would consult on BT's proposal, adding that, if the offer was accepted, it would be legally binding. Culture secretary Karen Bradley said: "We warmly welcome BT's offer and now will look at whether this or a regulatory [...]
