Amazon customers now have even more options for in-store returns
Image: Getty Justin Sullivan/Getty Images Amazon customers now have a growing list of options when it comes to returning their online purchases in person. In addition to any of the hundreds of Whole Foods supermarkets across the country, certain Kohl’s stores will now accept returns of “eligible items” as part of a retail partnership between the two companies that began earlier this summer. A Donald Trump tweet knocked $6 billion off Amazon’s value
Image: alex wong/Getty Images Donald Trump knocked $6 billion off of Amazon before most of the country was awake. In a tweet sent at 6:12 a.m. EST, Trump claimed Amazon was “doing great damage to tax paying retailers,” resulting in the loss of jobs. The @washingtonpost, which loses a fortune, is owned by @JeffBezos for purposes of keeping taxes down at his no profit company, @amazon. Donald J. Since then, Trump has on three other occasions launched tweets at Amazon, including the time the president threatened Amazon with an ‘internet […]
Man hacks his Amazon Alexa to talk out of a skull and it’s super creepy
The Amazon Echo is creepy enough with fears of Alexa listening in on every conversation, it’s convenience may come at the price of security for some anxious users. But since it’s creepy already, why not make it a little worse? Inspired by the Big Mouth Billy Bass Alexa, Mike McGurrin managed to make his Alexa speak out of a talking skull he used previously for a Halloween decoration, and it’s as creepy as it sounds. The whole thing, dubbed Project Yorick, is well documented on Hackster.io, just incase you have a talking skull lying around and you prefer your Echo […]
What’s next for Amazon’s private labels? Possibly motor home supplies and auto parts
Image: Sean Gallup/Getty Images Do you wear Amazon? You may not even know it if you do. Amazon has long sold commodity-type goods like batteries and baby wipes through its own prominently marked brands. But as it’s branched into more variable categories like food and fashion, it’s quietly launched a stable of satellite in-house labels that make no mention of their giant parent company. The unsexy source of most of Amazon’s cash
Image: Sean Gallup/Getty Images Amazon may swallow up nearly half of every dollar spent on online shopping, but that isn’t what’s fueled its nine-quarter profitability streak. The real money flows from a northern Virginia server compound from which the company powers Netflix, Slack, Pinterest and thousands of other sites that make up close to half of the web. Are Amazon’s prices too good to be true? The U.S. government wants to find out.
Amazon CEO Jeff BezosImage: Getty David Ryder/Getty Images As Amazon prepares to lock down its mega-merger with Whole Foods, one of its most controversial sales practices may be coming back to haunt it. The Federal Trade Commission is investigating claims that the online shopping giant misleads customers with the price comparisons it lists on its products, Reuters first reported. The unofficial probe concerns the listed price on items, that retailers use to demonstrate how much their customers are supposedly saving. How much waste do meal kits actually generate?
Image: Scott Eisen/Getty Images People who opt into the regimens of self-assembly gourmet meals pushed by the likes of Blue Apron tend to be the kind of conscious consumers who care about how their fish was caught or their vegetables farmed. Most of these companies offer food that lives up to those ideals, but they also deliver something else: lots and lots of tiny plastic bags, freezer packs, and styrofoam that ends up in the trash. SEE ALSO: Sorry, Blue Apron: Amazon is already selling its own meal kits The waste inherent to meal kits has become a frequent topic […]
Amazon is officially taking on Blue Apron with its own meal kits
Image: Amazon The nightmare scenario that’s dogged Blue Apron’s stock ever since its muted IPO is here: Amazon is trying its hand at selling its own meal kits. An Amazon-branded selection of DIY gourmet dishes with pre-packaged ingredients is already available through the company’s grocery service, AmazonFresh, in certain markets, GeekWire first reported. Rumors that such a service was in the works had sent Blue Apron’s already-struggling stock spiraling more than 10 percent on Monday. As of Tuesday morning, it was down another 4 percent. Amazon’s foray into the category doesn’t exactly come as a surprise; the company previously filed […]
