With the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, are consumers caught in the middle?
Today’s retail launch of the Apple iPhone 8 and 8 Plus is a crucial test for Apple’s riskiest iPhone strategy. For the first time, Apple introduced its latest iPhone upgrades while simultaneously teasing something better coming soon — what, by Apple’s own admission, is “the future.” SEE ALSO: Here are the first photographer-shot iPhone 8 pictures Apple’s iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are, based on my review and what I’ve seen elsewhere on the web (and even in teardowns), “S” series devices in full-number-update clothing. Except for the glass back, the handsets maintain the iPhone 6 design introduced in 2014. […]

Apple’s new iPhones have fast charging, but it’s not free
The iPhone X supports fast charging. According to Apple’s official specs, it only takes 30 minutes to charge its battery up to 50%. Pretty neat, huh? But there’s a problem, as noticed by Cnet: When you buy an iPhone X — or iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which support the same feature — you don’t get fast charging out of the box. SEE ALSO: Why Apple is risking everything with the iPhone X The fine print regarding fast charging on Apple’s tech specs page for the iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus, says the following: “Testing conducted by Apple […]

But in that case, Google had already partnered with a telecom provider on the ground, which it depended on to beam the signal to the balloons, for disaster relief. In Puerto Rico, Google’s innovation lab, X, is starting from scratch. It’s unclear if Puerto Rico’s stressed telecom companies […]

The corkscrew elevator and other secrets of Steve Jobs Theater
Steve Jobs Theater is empty. Hours earlier, the massive lobby, demo area (or foyer) space below, and theater were humming with Apple employees, media, analysts, and invited special guests, all jostling to touch the new iPhone X, iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and Apple Watch Series 3.
