Image: Google The Google Chromebook just went to the next level. In a hardware-filled event, Google announced Wednesday a new high-end Chromebook called the Pixelbook (just as was rumored). Similar to the two generations of Chromebook Pixel laptops that Google began shipping in 2013, the Pixelbook defies Chromebook orthodoxy by boasting serious specs… and an even more serious price tag, starting at $999. SEE ALSO: Google’s new Google Maps feature will make parking less of a nightmare You get some nice perks for that price tag, though. For starters, the Pixelbook has a touchscreen, and now that Android apps run […]

There’s a whole world of luxury carmakers who also design superyachts out there, a world you rarely see because, well, you probably aren’t loaded enough to afford one. As simple as that.  SEE ALSO: 377-Foot Migaloo Submarine Yacht Is Perfect for James Bond Villains But that didn’t stop you from admiring the 20-metre Niniette 66 from Bugatti, which came out in March this year. And — we bet — that won’t prevent you from checking out with awe the new GTT 115, a superyacht which is the product of a collaboration between Dynamiq and Studio F.A. Porsche.  Behold. How ‘Black Mirror’ kinda predicted this iPhone X feature

We already know that Charlie Brooker’s dystopian series Black Mirror is the perfect, nightmarish commentary for our tech-filled times.  SEE ALSO: Even Apple admits Face ID can’t fully secure your sensitive data But rarely has it been so well manifested than during Apple’s announcement of “animojis” — that is, dynamic 3D emojis that mimic your face.  When you smile, frown, or sneer at the iPhone X, the device’s facial recognition technology can scan your face and morph it into animated avatars — like the fox, the alien, and this big stinking pile of poo:  Image: Apple Now, if you paid […]

Mark Zuckerberg needs to put on a damn tie

Zuckerberg in his classic uniform. (Photo by Michael Kovac/Getty Images for Vanity Fair)Image: Getty Images for Vanity Fair Let’s just say it: Mark Zuckerberg dresses horribly, and he should be ashamed every time he appears in public. Here is a man in charge of the world’s most important social network — one that probably ended American democracy as we knew it! — and thanks to a general acceptance of his limp-ass techno-bro privilege, he gets away with wearing the same ugly T-shirt and jeans whenever he steps outside. It’s a uniform that says “I’m better than you,” an astonishing hubris […]

Marea cable headed towards the oceanImage: microsoft More than 17,000 feet below the ocean’s surface, there now lies the “most technologically advanced subsea cable,” providing up to 160 terabits (Tbps) of data per second — beating Google’s alternative, now poorly named, “Faster.” The cable is the handiwork of Facebook, Microsoft, and Spanish telecommunication company Telxius.  Construction on the cable, which stretches 4,000 miles from Virginia Beach, Virginia to Bilbao, Spain, began in August 2016. Microsoft announced its completion on Thursday, but it won’t be operational until early 2018.  SEE ALSO: Why Consumer Reports is wrong about Microsoft’s Surface products Facebook, […]

Image: Sean Gallup/Getty Images Do you wear Amazon? You may not even know it if you do. Amazon has long sold commodity-type goods like batteries and baby wipes through its own prominently marked brands. But as it’s branched into more variable categories like food and fashion, it’s quietly launched a stable of satellite in-house labels that make no mention of their giant parent company. SEE ALSO: Amazons homegrown products are moving beyond batteries and baby wipes And several more of these sorts of secret Amazon brands may be in the works.
